Crabtree leads the way for Big 12 freshmen

As freshman classes go, this year's Big 12 group is extremely gifted and Texas Tech wide receiver Michael Crabtree is at the head of the class.

Crabtree set national freshman records for receptions, receiving yardage and touchdowns in a first season so tremendous that he was named the Rivals.com Big 12 offensive freshman of the year.

Run-stuffing Oklahoma defensive tackle Gerald McCoy, a key reason the Sooners rank eight in the nation in rush defense, was named the defensive freshman of the year.

There were a number of other first-year stars in the Big 12. Missouri do-it-all wide receiver Jeremy Maclin set an NCAA freshman record for all-purpose yardage, and Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford set an NCAA freshman record with 34 touchdown passes.

Meanwhile, Oklahoma tailback DeMarco Murray, Oklahoma State wide receiver Dez Bryant, Kansas wide receiver Dezmon Briscoe and Colorado offensive tackle Ryan Miller, among others, also had excellent first seasons.
