Pennsylvania/New York Challenge @ Villanova Sat.
Curtis Sumpter) up close, not to mention Division I prospects Quincy Douby and Ben Luber. On Saturday, Feburary 2, Villanova University will be hosting the Pennsylvania/New York Challenge at the Pavilion. Games will be running all throughout the day and just $5 gets you in to see all the action! Fortunately for die-hard cat fans, the Bishop Loughlin game will not compete with the VU-Pitt battle (scheduled for 4pm). Here is the official scheduleThis weekend gives Villanova fans the opportunity to see one of our star recruits (
Date: Saturday, February 2, 2002
12:00 noon Newtown vs CB East
The first two games feature struggling Pennsylvania squads. CB East and Pennsbury both play in the Suburban One league in suburban philadelphia and our struggling to reach the .500 mark. Newtown and New Utrecht, representing New York ...
The college basketball fans will not want to miss the next two games. Grady High School features Quincy Douby who signed with Hofstra in the fall. Most consider this a recruiting steal for the Pride, as Quincy has had an impressive senior campaign, including a 64 point game this past Wednesday. Douby leads all scores in NYC this season with 36 ppg. Grady will be facing Council Rock High which is led by an all-state point guard in Ben Luber. Most 'Nova fans will recall that one of Council Rock's most famous alumni is none other than our own Jay Wright. However, Jay could not land the talented Mr. Luber who verbally committed to the Penn State Nittany Lions recently. Council Rock does not have the role players that Grady does, but this should be an interesting battle of the guards.
The finale will feature Bishop Loughlin led by none other than Villanova signee Curtis Sumpter. Loughlin is 8-7 on the season (although with a brutal schedule.) They are just off a heart-breaking loss to Rice, where Sumpter scored 30 points in the losing effort. Abington is from the same suburban one league that CB East and Pennsbury come from, but they have faired very well on the season with a 15-4 record. They do not have any "stars", but have a very solid team that should give Loughlin a run for their money in this finale.
