Stoops eyeing Texas return for Granger?

Bob Stoops said on Tuesday that injured defensive tackle Demarcus Granger is making positive steps toward a possible return this season.

"He's doing good. The reports to this point are positive," said Stoops. "There's good speculation that he can possibly practice Monday."

Granger was expected to take three to five weeks to rehabilitate his injured foot suffered against Washington two-and-a-half weeks ago.

Granger did attend OU's game against TCU on Saturday but he was walking with the aid of crutches while also wearing a protective boot on his injured foot.

If Granger did return to practice next Monday, the 6-foot-2, 302-pound tackle would still have to prove his foot can handle the wear and tear of practices and/or games.

Granger requires season-ending surgery to repair tendon damage in his foot, but the OU training staff is trying to put the junior defensive lineman though a rehabilitation regimen as an alternative solution.

Stoops also said he expects defensive end Frank Alexander to return to practices next Monday as well.

Alexander has been out of action since being stabbed at a night club following the Sooners' season-opening win over UT-Chattanooga.

Alexander has been limited to conditioning work since the night of the stabbing.

Both players would bolster a depleted defensive line heading into the Red River Rivalry against the Texas Longhorns.
