Dews updates receivers' status

Some are banged up, one is sick and one sat out last week's game for unspecified reasons. So which receivers will suit up for Michigan's non-conference game with Toledo Saturday? Wide receivers coach Tony Dews provided some answers to WXYT radio's Doug Karsch Thursday night.

True freshman Martavious Odoms has been one of the pleasant surprises of the year and notched his first 100-yard receiving game against Illinois last week, but he remains questionable with a shoulder injury, Dews reported. Even if he can go he's not likely to return kicks, head coach Rich Rodriguez said Wednesday.

Odoms did practice today, Dews reported, providing a glimmer of hope.

Sophomore Junior Hemingway, a potential explosive player on the outside, remains out with mono and will probably miss at least a few more weeks.

"We were talking about him just the other day," said Dews. "He's got that big butt and he can really jump and get the ball."

Hemingway provided one of the few bright spots in the opening loss to Utah with a diving catch for a touchdown. He's been slowed with a shoulder injury in addition to his illness.

Freshman Darryl Stonum, out last week for an apparent violation of team rules, will play Saturday, Dews reported. Rodriguez said Wednesday he still wasn't certain whether or not Stonum would go, but the decision to play him was apparently made today.
