Source: Maybin to bolt to NFL
Aaron Maybin has decided to make himself eligble for the 2009 NFL Draft. Sources said that a formal announcement will come from the Maybin family and Penn State sometime in in the next few days.Sources have indicated to BWI that Penn State redshirt sophomore defensive end
Maybin jumped into a starter's role early in 2008, when junior starter Maurice Evans was out serving a suspension. Maybe made the most of his chances, recording 12 sacks, a number which ranked him fourth in the country in the category, and 19 tackles for loss, which ranked sixth nationally.
He also forced a team-high three fumbles and recorded two sacks each against Coastal Carolina, Temple and Wisconsin.
He was a finalist for the Chuck Bednarik defensive player of the year award, as well as the Ted Hendricks Award, which is given to the nation's top defensive end. He was named a first team All-American by the Associated Press, the Football Writers Association of America and the Walter Camp Football Foundation, and was a second team All-American selection by SI.com.
The Ellicott City, Md., native was listed officially at 6-4, 245 on the Rose Bowl roster, and could be looked as an outside linebacker in a pro '3-4' defensive alignment.
Sources have also indicated that Evans, who is also contemplating entering the draft, has yet to inform anyone at Penn State of his intentions.
A separate source told BWI in December that both players would likely be departing early for the 2009 draft, which will be held April 25 and 26 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
