Blake Griffin cleared to play for OU
Blake Griffin to play this Saturday against Texas Tech. It will be the first time Griffin will rejoin the OU basketball team since suffering a concussion last Saturday against the Texas Longhorns.University of Oklahoma's men basketball physician Brock Schnebel has cleared
Without Griffin, the Sooners have dropped consecutive games against Texas and Kansas.
On Thursday afternoon, OU head coach Jeff Capel said Griffin's status was still uncertain.
"He has to be able to do things and first of all he's got to be able not to have headaches, to not have nausea and we're not going to do anything with Blake until he's fine with that and those symptoms have cleared," Capel said.
Griffin will play against Tech with little time spent on the practice floor over the last week
Capel said Griffin had been held out of practices over the last several days other than to allow him to shoot and dribble on his own. He hasn't had any contact during practices after suffering post-concussion symptoms.
Griffin's presence will be welcome after sixth-man Juan Patillo was suspended for OU's game against Texas Tech for violating team rules.
"He's competitive, he wants to be on the floor and he hated the fact we struggled without him but he's going to come back ready," said brother Taylor Griffin. "He's coming back slowly and how the trainer allows. You know how he'll come back though, he'll be ready to play."
