Huskers still in picture with Paulus

LINCOLN, Neb. - Greg Paulus to Nebraska might not be a dead issue yet.

According to a report by the 24-hour Time Warner TV Station News 10 Now in Syracuse, N.Y., on Monday night, Paulus will "likely" visit Nebraska before making a final decision in the coming weeks.

Christian Brothers Academy coach Joe Casamento talked to his former star quarterback for around 30 minutes on Monday, and he confirmed that Nebraska would probably be the other school he visits if he decides to take another trip.

"They are as viable as anybody," Casamento told HuskersIllustrated.com. "I don't know if 'likely' is the word to use. We just had a half-hour talk. He needs to take a day or two to kick some stuff around. He might look at another school at this point."

Casamento said the main focus for Paulus right now is concentrating on final exams at Duke, which started Monday. Paulus is also scheduled to take part in Duke's commencement ceremony on the weekend of May 9, meaning this upcoming weekend looks like the most likely scenario for a Paulus visit to Nebraska.

Casamento said he has had some conversations with Nebraska's coaching staff about Paulus, but he didn't want comment on what they discussed.

"The fact that they've called to talk to me should let you know that they are interested," Casamento said.

Paulus visited Michigan earlier this month and took his visit to Syracuse last weekend. Casamento said from all accounts Paulus's trip to Syracuse went very well from the talk they had on Monday.

"I think he liked it a lot," Casamento said. "He just needs some time to think about things. He has to get back for exams and graduation. When he was on his visit, he ran around quite a bit between all the meetings and tours around the campus.

"He's a 22-year-old man and not an 18-year-old kid. He has to think about life and what he wants to do. It's premature to say yes or no if he's going to take another visit. He's being very thorough in this process."

MARVE'S NEXT MOVE?

In other new with transfer quarterbacks, all signs point to former Miami signal-caller Robert Marve enrolling at Purdue. Marve visited Nebraska during the Red-White game on April 18, but it was unknown how strong Nebraska's interest was with the former Florida high school football star.

ESPN reported Monday that Marve is currently developing an academic plan that would allow him to enroll at Purdue. ASUDevils.com of the Rivals.com network reported on Monday that former Michigan quarterback Steven Threet will transfer to Arizona State, which makes Marve's potential move to Purdue even more plausible.

ESPN reported that Marve was favoring both Purdue and ASU after taking five official visits this spring to USF, Arizona State, Nebraska, Arizona State and Texas Tech.
