Ole Miss extends offer to Florida LB
Pahokee (Pahokee High School) outside linebacker prospect Zachary Allen is not short on scholarship offers, but nonetheless, picked up an additional offer recently.
Ole Miss is the most recent school to offer the 6-foot-1, 210 pound prospect with 4.6 speed. His offer sheet exceeds more than a dozen with Tennessee, Miami, FIU, Wake Forest, West Virginia, Michigan, Louisville, Colorado State, Rutgers, Purdue and Vanderbilt all extending offers.
While it was recently reported that Allen was a Wake Forest lean, he evidently has changed his mind and called himself "open" when interviewed on Sunday.
"Ole Miss is definitely a school that I'll give consideration to," Allen said. I've talked to the coach recruiting me (Terry Price) and he's real cool."
Allen had 50 tackles, 25 of them for loss, with 10 sacks, an interception and two forced fumbles as a junior at Pahokee. As a tight end, he added five receptions, good for 150 yards and two touchdowns.
"The kid is an impact player, just knows how to get around blocks," Pahokee coach Blaze Thompson described Allen in a previous Rivals.com interview. "He gets by 6-foot-6 linemen and tosses quarterbacks like they're rag dolls. He's got a basketball background, so he's used to moving his hips."
"He's just a special kid, Allen continued. "He just catches everybody he goes after. Miami's recruiting him as a tight end, and he's got the ability to catch. He has great hands. He can get behind slower DB's, linebackers, and he can block. He's multi-dimensional."
Allen has yet to firm up his summer camp schedule; although he has decided one visit will be to Knoxville to camp with the Volunteers, but remains open to other visits.
He said he decided to forego most junior day visits this past spring.
Ole Miss could be in the mix for either a camp appearance or official visit based on Allen impressions of the Rebels.
"I really like Ole Miss' style of play," he said. "I like the way they play aggressive on both sides of the ball."
Allen already has a date picked out when he'll announce a decision.
He chose his date to honor the memory of a friend.
"I'll commit on Sept. 25 - it's the weekend a teammate got shot and killed last year," Allen said. "We were real close."
He reports a 2.7 GPA and a 16 on is first ACT attempt.
