ULM (2-2, 1-0) had lost to Texas and Arizona State on the road, it had crushed Texas Southern. FAU proved to be more than an even match up, but ULM made enough plays late to pull out a 27-25 victory in its first Sun Belt Conference game of the season.
And it wasn't surprising to see a close game. After all, in six meetings, the outcome has been by an average of less than four points.
ULM led 27-18 early in the fourth quarter, but had to rely on its defense to hold off a late FAU rally. Backup defensive lineman Trez Lockhart, who had just one tackle, came up with a huge sack on FAU quarterback Rusty Smith on the Owls' final series, and ULM held on for the key league win.
The Warhawks can grab the early Sun Belt league this week when they play Florida International at home. It's the only scheduled conference game.
-ULM is 4-2 all-time against Florida Atlantic, and all four wins have come on the road.
-ULM junior RB Frank Goodin has rushed for a team-high 298 yards and five touchdowns.
-Senior DE Aaron Morgan has a team-high five sacks.
GAME BALL GOES TO: QB Trey Revell-The junior and first-year starter threw for 207 yards and no interceptions and rushed for 48 and two touchdowns in ULM's 27-25 win at Florida Atlantic.
KEEP AN EYE ON: WR LaGregory Sapp-The senior, who missed last season with an injury, caught a team-high seven passes for 96 yards against FAU.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "It's a great win for us. It's an awesome victory. We knew from past experiences that this could happen."-ULM coach Charlie Weatherbie after the Warhawks' 27-25 road win at Florida Atlantic.
STRATEGY AND PERSONNEL
- ULM did a good job mixing up the run and the pass against FAU, and Revell continued to make good decisions.
- ULM was 4-of-4 in the red zone against FAU.
- PK Radi Jabour has made 6-of-7 field-goal attempts this season.
STILL NEEDS WORK:
ULM was just 5-of-13 on third-down plays against FAU.

ULM allowed 357 yards passing and had just one sack against FAU.
