COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Award watch list season got off to an unofficial start last week when Ohio State defenders Bradley Roby and Ryan Shazier were named to the watch list for the Lott IMPACT Trophy, and continued today when Buckeyes center Corey Linsley was named to the watch list for the Rimington Trophy.

Linsley is one of 44 players who was named to the watch list for the award, which is presented annually to college football's best center. A fifth-year senior, Linsley is entering his second season as Ohio State's starting center and is one of four senior starters returning to the Buckeyes' offensive line.

In 2012, the Youngstown, Ohio native helped pave the way for the nation's 10th ranked rushing offense. Ohio State averaged 242.2 yards per game on the ground last season, en route to a perfect 12-0 record.

A three-year letterwinner who spent 2011 playing guard for the Buckeyes, Linsley has appeared in 28 games over the course of his college career, including 12 starts in 2012. Throughout this past spring he was lauded for his efforts as a leader on an OSU squad that will be replacing four captains from a season ago.

"Our center has always been a leader in there, Corey Linsley," Buckeyes offensive line coach Ed Warinner said. "And he's a leader because he has a great work ethic. He does everything the right way. He's real smart, I mean football smart."

Joining Linsley on the Rimington Trophy's watch list from the Big Ten are Michigan State's Travis Jackson, Nebraska's Cole Pensick, and Northwestern's Brandon Vitabile. The award has been presented annually since 2000, with LeCharles Bentley (2001) being the only Buckeye to bring home the trophy.

This season's winner will be honored at Rimington Trophy Presentation banquet at the Rococo Theater in Lincoln, Nebraska on January 11, 2014.
