Hawkins, a 6-2, 195-pounder, is the No. 206 overall prospect and No. 42 wide receiver in the nation. He is the No. 7 senior in the state of New Jersey. He is the first true wide receiver in Michigan's class, though Indiana athletes Kiante Enis and Chris Evans also have the potential to contribute at that position.
With Hawkins in the fold, Michigan has a duo from Camden High School, as he joins teammate Ron Johnson Jr. on the commitment list. They are the first two players from New Jersey to join U-M's 2016 class, but they won't likely be the last. Jim Harbaugh and his assistants have targeted wide receiver Ahmir Mitchell and defensive tackle Rashan Gary (and just across the Delaware River, tight end Naseir Upshur from Philadelphia).
With Hawkins' commitment, the Wolverines climb one position in the Rivals.com team rankings to No. 5, passing the University of Miami. They are one spot (in fact, just one point) behind rival Michigan State. U-M intends to sign 25 players in this class, so there is currently room for four more prospects to join.
