Commitment Updates: Ferns, Speight take over

Football season is in full swing, and future Wolverines continue to make an impact for their respective high schools.
Linebacker Michael Ferns' 15-tackle performance and quarterback Wilton Speight's 300-yard, four-touchdown passing outburst highlight a group of commitments that continue to bully foes on both sides of the ball.

Ian Bunting: Bunting did not record a reception, but Hinsdale Central (2-1) rushed for 332 yards in a 30-7 win over York … Bunting has three receptions for 15 yards (5.0 yards per reception) this year … The Red Devils host Proviso West Sept. 20.
Juwan Bushell-Beatty: Bushell-Beatty's work in the trenches allowed Paramus Catholic (2-0) to gain 414 yards of total offense in a 30-8 conquest of Delbarton … The Knights are home against DePaul Sept. 21.
Freddy Canteen: Canteen grabbed two touchdown passes, including a 48-yarder, to keep Eastern Christian Academy (2-1) close, but the Honey Badgers were nipped by St. Peter's Prep 35-32 … Eastern Christian Academy looks to rebound at Maplewood Sept. 27.
Mason Cole: Cole controlled the line of scrimmage for an East Lake (3-0) offense that rushed for 183 yards and four touchdowns in a 48-0 lambasting of Dunedin … The Eagles are averaging 241.3 rushing yards per game this year … East Lake makes the trek to Clearwater Sept. 20.
Michael Ferns: Ferns was all over the field for St. Clairsville (3-0) during its 27-0 victory over Renaissance Christian, making 15 tackles, forcing a fumble and adding a 32-yard touchdown run on offense … Ferns has stopped 30 ball carriers and forced a fumble this season on defense, and rumbled for 188 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries (9.4 yards per carry) and caught five passes for 91 yards (18.2 yards per reception) on offense … The Red Devils travel to Martins Ferry Sept. 20.
Noah Furbush: Furbush was in on 10 tackles, including three sacks, to spearhead a stingy Kenton (3-0) defense in a 66-14 triumph of Memorial … This season, Furbush has notched 27 tackles, including nine for loss and five sacks … The Wildcats return to action at Van Wert Sept. 20.
Drake Harris: Harris missed his third-straight game for Grand Rapids Christian (2-1) with a hamstring injury, but the Eagles still eased past Kenowa Hills 27-10 … Harris is not expected to play when Grand Rapids Christian journeys to Hudsonville Sept. 20.
Lawrence Marshall: Marshall only saw action in the first quarter of Southfield's (2-1) 48-0 blowout win over Bloomfield Hills, but still managed four tackles, a sack and a forced fumbled … Marshall has recorded nine sacks this season … The Bluejays are at Oak Park Sept. 20.
Bryan Mone: Mone made just two tackles, but Highland (3-1) dominated Kearns 35-14 … This season, Mone registered 10 tackles, including two for loss and a sack … The Rams are on the road at East Sept. 20.
Brady Pallante: Pallante was a monster in the middle for Barron Collier's (2-0) defense, making eight tackles and a sack in the Cougar's 42-13 shellacking of Golden Gate … Pallante boasts 20 tackles, including three tackles for loss and a sack this season … Barron Collier aims to stay undefeated at home against Immokalee Sept. 20.
Jabrill Peppers: Peppers stockpiled 116 rushing yards, including an 80-yard touchdown run, on 10 carries (11.5 yards per carry), a one-yard touchdown reception, an interception and five tackles to spark Paramus Catholic (2-0) to a 30-18 victory over Delbarton … This season, Peppers has carried the ball 15 times for 158 yards (10.5 yards per carry) and a score, caught four passes for 58 yards (14.5 yards per reception) and three touchdowns, tallied nine tackles and intercepted a pass … The Knights battle DePaul at home Sept. 21.
Wilton Speight: Speight threw for 315 yards and four touchdowns to lead The Collegiate School (2-0) to a 35-21 win over Benedictine … This season, Speight has sliced through opposing defenses for 597 yards and seven scores … The Cougars welcome Woodberry Forest Sept. 20.
Jared Wangler: Wangler contributed four tackles and a five-yard catch, but saw limited action because of De La Salle's (1-1) early dominance in a 42-14 victory … Wangler has stuffed 17 ball carriers and snagged four passes for 32 yards (8.0 yards per reception) this season … The Pilots clash with Brother Rice on the road Sept. 21.
Brandon Watson: Watson collected three tackles and intercepted a pass, but Eastern Christian Academy (2-1) fell to St. Peters Prep 35-32 ... Watson has brought down 14 ball carriers, intercepted two passes and returned a fumble for a score this year … The Eagles hope to get back on track at Maplewood Sept. 27.
Maurice Ways: Ways was limited to a 30-yard reception, and Country Day (0-3) remained winless in a 20-14 loss to Loyola … Ways has totaled 283 yards and three touchdowns on 14 receptions (20.1 yards per reception) this year … The Yellowjackets are at home against Pershing Sept. 20.
Chase Winovich: Winovich continued his ironman exploits, making seven tackles, including three sacks, blocking an extra point, and throwing and rushing for a touchdown to guide Thomas Jefferson (3-0) to a 45-12 decimation of Hollidaysburg … This season, Winovich has assembled 22 tackles, six tackles for loss, five sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and six offensive touchdowns … The Jaguars look to protect their home field against Trinity Sept. 20.

George Campbell: Campbell tracked down three passes for 60 yards (20.0 yards per reception) and a touchdown to ignite East Lake's (3-0) 48-0 destruction of Dunedin … Campbell has caught five passes for 143 yards (28.6 yards per reception) and two scores on the year … The Eagles invade Clearwater Sept. 20.
Shaun Crawford: St. Edward (3-0) shut out Woodson 49-0 … The Eagles take on Elder at home Sept. 21.
Andrew David: David was perfect on five extra point attempts, booted four kickoffs into the endzone for touchbacks, and averaged 40.0 yards on four punts in Massillon's (3-0) 35-14 win over Harding … The Tigers return home for a skirmish with Lake Catholic Sept. 20.
Damien Harris: Harris sprinted for 146 yards and one touchdown on 20 carries (7.3 yards per carry), and Madison Southern (4-0) survived a 21-19 scare by Paul Laurence Dunbar … In four games this season, Harris has run for 1,057 yards (264.3 yards per game) and 14 scores, and has also returned a kickoff for a touchdown … The Eagles return to the gridiron Sept. 27 at South Laurel.
Tyree Kinnel: Kinnel was in on five tackles and Wayne's (2-1) was dropped by Lakota West 31-27 … On the season, Kinnel has taken down 15 runners … The Warriors are home against Xenia Sept. 20.
John Runyan, Jr.: St. Joseph's (2-1) offense gained 433 yards, including 259 on the ground, in a 35-6 dismantling of North Penn … The Hawks greet Roman Catholic Sept. 28.
