Detroit Cass Tech four-star cornerback Kalon Gervin picked up a Michigan offer a while back and is getting more and more comfortable with the staff at U-M. He was able to hang out with them a little bit at Sound Mind Sound Body back in June and is really enjoying how things are developing.

"They were really excited to see me up there. That always makes me feel pretty good," he said. "It’s like family with Michigan now. Me and Coach [Jim] Harbaugh are really cool. He’s always really excited when he sees me. Coach [Mike] Zordich is the same way. We are all just real cool now. I talk to Coach Zordich a lot and I recently started talking to Jay Harbaugh too. He’s cool, he’s real cool."

Sound Mind Sound Body originated in Detroit and a lot of supporters and participants from that camp were very outspoken when it came to the NCAA's original ban on satellite camps. Gervin himself has benefited greatly from camps like that and is glad the ban was lifted. He thinks Harbaugh did exactly what he should do as a big-time head coach.

"Satellite camps are a great thing. We need that. Sound Mind Sound Body has helped a lot of people, especially in Detroit. Me especially," Gervin said. "I’ve been going to that camp since like the seventh grade. I couldn’t understand why the NCAA ever thought they should get rid of them. They’ve helped so many people. I’m glad they are back.

"I think Coach Harbaugh just took advantage of what you can do. There’s nothing wrong with it at all. A lot of coaches won’t do that but Coach Harbaugh is just different. He’s going to work."

The bond and familiarity is definitely there between Gervin and U-M, but other schools are definitely in the mix too. The 5-11, 175-pounder's offer list is starting to get a national flavor and programs from all over the country are showing love.

"Penn State is definitely showing a lot of attention," he said. "Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Michigan State of course. Syracuse and Iowa State. Georgia Tech is really starting to come into the picture.

"I think I’m going to check out West Virginia, Pittsburgh, and Ohio State this summer before school starts back up. I’ve talked to Wisconsin and Penn State about coming up for game visits. Michigan and Michigan State too."

With two full years of high school left Gervin doesn't need to be in a hurry but he doesn't plan on taking forever. The rising junior is starting to form a plan for how he'll wrap up the process.

"I really just want to figure it out," he said. "I don’t want to wait too long. I think I’ll have a little top ten or something. I think I might do that before this season or right after the season."

Gervin will be in Ann Arbor for the BBQ at The Big House on August 6 and will be back in town, likely multiple times, this fall for Michigan home games. The early member of the Rivals100 is quickly turning into the next big-time prospect to come out of Cass Tech and Michigan appears to be in great shape with him.
