Fred Jackson to assume running backs coach role in Mike Hart's absence

A familiar face is back in a familiar role for the Michigan football program, at least for the time being.

Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed with reporters on Monday that Fred Jackson has been elevated from his analyst role with the team to take on the running backs coach role in Mike Hart's absence.

Hart suffered a medical emergency in the first quarter of the game against Indiana.

"I think (Hart) had issued a statement today that he was back in Ann Arbor and feeling better," Harbaugh said. "Hopes to rejoin the team soon. We'll make Fred Jackson (running back coach)—we've got a waiver to allow Fred Jackson to coach until Mike gets back."

Hart indeed released a statement via the football program on Monday to inform the public that he was back in Ann Arbor and on the mend. Stating his health was trending in a 'positive direction.'

It's unknown as of this writing when Hart is expected to return to his coaching duties.

"I would like to thank everyone for their support, messages, and prayers," Hart's statement read. "I am truly grateful for the trainers and paramedics, the doctors and nurses at IU Hospital, Michigan’s team doctors, coaching staff, players and Coach Harbaugh. I would also like to thank IU’s football staff and team doctors. I will never forget everyone's kindness and generosity. My wife and I are thankful to be surrounded by such incredible people.

"Health-wise, I am back in Ann Arbor and things are trending in a positive direction. I look forward to rejoining our team soon."

Jackson was a long-term assistant for multiple U-M coaches from 1992 to 2014, where he took on primarily running back coaching duties.
