Graham Brown Is Ready to Rumble

The Wolverine spoke on Monday with 6-9 center/power forward signee Graham Brown of Mio (Mich.) High School. Michigan signed three players 6-9 or taller in the Class of 2002, but they can do nothing to bolster the paper-thin front line of this year's Wolverines. Brown and his classmates cannot arrive soon enough for U-M fans, and to hear him tell it, he feels the same way.

With 7-2 sophomore center Josh Moore's December departure from the program, Brown (right) and his fellow freshman posts will have no other choice than to play immediately. "I'm saying, 'bring it on,'" he said. "I would love to play with those guys right now."
In January, Mio coach John Byelich told The Wolverine that his big man has been working out, and had muscled up to 245 pounds. When Brown weighed himself a few days ago, the former football player said, he was at 252. That kind of physical presence will only make U-M fans more eager for him to arrive. The same could be said for his attitude about how to use his bulk.
"I love playing down low," he said. "I love playing against everybody, banging bodies." Brown has posted eye-popping numbers in leading Mio to a 15-0 record and a No. 3 ranking in Class D by the Detroit Free Press, No. 4 by the Detroit News. He is averaging about 22 points, 17 rebounds, 10 assists and seven blocks per game, and has tallied a quadruple-double on more than one occasion.
The rest of Brown's comments will appear in the next issue of The Wolverine magazine, due out the week of March 4 (the current issue is mailed out on Tuesday, Feb. 12). To subscribe or order a single copy, call (800) 421-7751 during normal business hours.
