INSTANT RECAP: Michigan 75, Iowa 67

Michigan and Iowa took turns turning the ball over in stretches in the Wolverines' 75-67 win over the Hawkeyes, including three on four possessions by Iowa to open the game. U-M blew some point blank chances early, including a missed lay-up by sophomore Caris Levert, before heating up offensively, and both teams found their grooves in an entertaining game.
Box Score
The Hawkeyes used their size advantage inside to their advantage, opening a 14-9 lead. Melsahn Basabe went five for his first six and scored 11 of the Hawkeyes' first 17 points, including a three-point play after Michigan tied it at 14 on a finish from Glenn Robinson III and a triple from freshman Zak Irvin in transition.
Iowa started to heat up just before the 12-minute mark, grabbing a 21-16 lead before fifth-year senior Jordan Morgan's jam on a in bounds pass at the 9:00 mark. Stauskas tied it with a pull up three from NBA range, giving him 10 early points, and the Wolverines took the lead at 7:47 on a Robinson III putback.
Then it got fun. Stauskas threw a ridiculously high alley-oop to Robinson, who finished. Iowa made four straight inside before Stauskas broke it down off the dribble to find Morgan. It was 27-all at 5:40 on another finish inside from Basabe, his 14th and 15th points.
Spike Albrecht, starting for Derrick Walton Jr. (flu), tripled, answered inside by four straight form seven-footer Adam Woodbury for a 31-30 Iowa lead. LeVert's steal and dunk put Michigan back up 32-31 at 3:08, and his one of two free throws made it a two-point game at 2:50. Stauaksas' acrobatic three-point play on a strong drive made it 36-31 at 2:08.
Iowa started denying Stauaksas the ball, but the sophomore still split the defense and got fouled at 13.7, making both free throws for 15, first half points and giving the Wolverins a 38-33 lead at the break.
Michigan shot 48 percent to Iowa's 54. Stauakss led all scoreras with eight, 15, Morgan added eight and Robinsoin III six and eight rebounds.
Robinson III missed a wide open triple from the corner to start the half, but Stauskas nailed his on Michigan's next trip to open a 41-34 Wolverines lead. The Hawkeyes, though, closed withing 43-41 at 17:30 on a Devyn Marble triple.
Stauskas answered with a dish to Morgan in transition to push the lead back to four, and LeVert finished in transition from Albrecht for a 47-41 lead at 15:34. Stauaksas hit a triple at 15:00 to make it 50-43, and the Wolverines had all the momentum.
It got even better for U-M. Robinson III drove the lane and threw down a two-handed jam. Albrecht then stole the inbounds pass and hit a short jumper that made it 54-43 at 14:05.
Iowa, though, scored the next four to keep it close before Albrecht found Robinson III in the lane for two more in transition.
The tone changed after Stauskas missed a wide open triple from the corner on a great look from Albrecht. Iowa cut it to 56-51 on two free throws from Basabe at 10:25. The Wolverines missed a trio of wide open triples before Irvin helped Michigan get momentum back with a three-pointer and a finish in transition. That made it 62-51 at 8:00.
Momentum swung back to Iowa on a no-call on a Morgan offensive rebound and putback, leading to an Aaron White finish in transition. White stole the inbounds pass and scored again to make it 62-56 at 6:56. White scored inside yet again following another LeVert turnover to make it 62-58 before Stauskas stopped the bleeding with a 17-foot jumper from the top at 5:30.
Albrecht, once again, came to the rescue when Iowa cut it to four once more. His steal in transition led to an Irvin triple at the other end, making it 67-60 with just under four minutes remaining.
Iowa still wasn't done. The Hawkeyes turned a missed Irvin triple into a dunk at the other end to pull within 67-64 at 2:30. Albrecht found Robinson for an alley-oop, but an empty possession led to a transition breakout for White. He made one of two free throws after being fouled, and it was 69-65 at 1:05.
U-M, though, closed it out from the line. Stauskas made two free throws at 55.1. Morgan blocked a shot at the other end and Albrecht and Robinson III made their free throws to close out the win.
Stauskas led all scorers with 26 points, adding five assists and five rebounds. Robinson III added 14 points and nine rebounds, Morgan 12 and seven and Irvin 11 points for the Wolverines, now 6-0 in conference play.
