The 2016 NFL Draft wasn’t one that will go down in the history books for Michigan football, with three players selected (Graham Glasgow the earliest in Round 3), but 2017 could be a banner year for the Wolverines according to early projections.
According to CBSSports.com, senior cornerback Jourdan Lewis is the No. 9 prospect for next year’s draft with a glowing review: “He may lack imposing size at just 5-9, 176 pounds, but Lewis just might be the most dynamic athlete among the 2017 senior class.”
WaterFootball.com has redshirt sophomore linebacker Jabrill Peppers going to the Jacksonville Jaguars with the eighth overall selection in 2017 according to its Mock Draft.
SportingNews.com also has Peppers among its top players to watch for the 2017 Draft and BleacherReport.com has him going No. 5 overall to the Tennessee Titans.
The 6-1, 208-pound Peppers is projected at cornerback/safety though he will play strongside linebacker for the Wolverines this season. He would be eligible to turn pro after next season because he is three years out of high school, however, the odds of him returning for his junior year are likely 50-50 at this point.
Finally, AthlonSports.com ranks four Wolverines among its top 50 prospects for the 2017 Draft, slating Peppers at No. 25, TE Jake Butt at No. 36, DE Chris Wormley at No. 39 and Lewis at No. 48.
