McGary earns weekly Big Ten award

Mitch McGary, Michigan's freshman big man, is stepping up, and people are taking notice.
With an ankle injury keeping redshirt junior Jordan Morgan on the sideline, McGary has been forced into the spotlight. Before Feb. 2's loss at Indiana, McGary had never played more than 20 minutes in a game.

In each of the last three contests, he has played at least 28 minutes per game, including a career-high 32 minutes against the Badgers Saturday.
Last week, in an overtime win over Ohio State and a loss at Wisconsin, McGary totaled 26 points and 14 rebounds for the Wolverines.
For his efforts, McGary earned Big Ten Player Of The Week honors. It's his second such award this season.
The Wolverines have won at 11 of the 28 total weekly awards the Big Ten has given out thus far. Tim Hardaway, Jr. (two) and Trey Burke (two) have each won multiple Big Ten Player Of The Week awards. Nik Stauskas (three), Glenn Robinson III (two) and McGary (two) each of multiple Big Ten Freshman Of The Week honors.
