Michigan 93, EMU 54: Instant recap

Eastern Michigan jumped out to a 6-2 lead on Michigan at Crisler Center Thursday night - and that proved to be the highlight of their evening. U-M found holes in the Eagles' zone, scored nine points in transition and hit six of 13 threes in the first half of a 93-54 win, jumping out 40-24 at half behind 11 points from sophomore point guard Trey Burke and nine from sophomore Nik Stauskas.

Stauskas airballed his first triple attempt from the corner before hitting his next three, finding his stroke after going 2-for-7 last Saturday against West Virginia. Burke made only one of his four triples but worked his midrange jumper, found creases in the zone and finished and added four assists against no turnovers. U-M coughed it up only three times in the first half, in fact, in taking care of the ball.

Nine EMU turnovers helped the cause, allowing the Wolverines to help break it open. The Wolverines went on a 20-0 run after trailing 6-2, finding some room in working backdoor on the baseline and getting triples from Stauskas and Tim Hardaway Jr. (seven first half points). Freshman Mitch McGary was active on the glass, notching five rebounds in eight minutes, while Max Bielfeldt's efforts on the offensive glass (two) and on loose balls made for a productive five-minute stretch.

Freshman Caris LeVert scored five points, Jordan Morgan and Glenn Robinson four each in the first half. EMU managed to keep it halfway respectable with nine points off offensive rebounds and six blocked shots, three by Da'Shonte Riley. Beilein tinkered with his lineups, at one point throwing four true freshmen and Bielfeldt out there at the same time.

Second Half

Michigan jumped out with the first four points of the second half, all from Morgan. He worked inside for a reverse lay-up and showed confidence on a 10-foot jumper to push the lead to 20.

McGary scored four straight on a dunk off a nice feed from Hardaway and an offensive rebound, and then fed Robinson for a three-point play that kept it 20 at 14:15. He scored again in transition following a Burke steal and on another tip-in that gave him eight points and seven rebounds with 13:30 remaining.

U-M continued to pour it on. Stauskas hit another triple and LeVert, playing with more confidence than he's shown all year, drained a long one himself, followed by one from the corner from Robinson. The Wolverines pushed the lead to 29 with 5:15 remaining on a post and finish by Hardaway.

A Stauskas triple from the top at 4:10 was the exclamation point -Hardaway added a second with a one-handed jam in transition, and Spike Albrecht and Eso Akunne each added triples in mop-up duty.

Hardaway Jr. led the scoring with 17 points, adding seven assists and five rebounds. Stauskas notched 16 and five rebounds on five of eight three point shooting. Robinson notched 13, Burke 11 points and eight assists and McGary a double double with 10 points and 11 boards.
