Daytona Beach (Fla.) Father Lopez center Colin Castleton officially signed his letter of intent Wednesday to play at Michigan.

Castleton called U-M his perfect fit and said he couldn’t wait to start his career in Ann Arbor.

“It’s the best feeling in the world, knowing this is the best opportunity for me,” Castleton told TheWolverine.com today. “I’m really looking forward to getting to know these guys [in my class] and building our relationship.”

He joins point guard David DeJulius, shooting guard Adrien Nunez and forwards Ignas Brazdeikis and Brandon Johns in the five-man class, currently ranked No. 8 nationally by Rivals.com. DeJulius signed Wednesday morning, while Nunez was slated to ink at 3:00. Brazdeikis was slated to sign during a Thursday ceremony at his school, while Johns' signature is expected at any time.

Castleton put pen to paper during this ceremony at his school (video).

“He exploded on to the scene in the past few years not only in the state of Florida, but in the country,” athletic director Scott Drabczyk said during the assembly. “What makes this Green Wave hoopster’s story so special is it isn’t one that had a path that was smoothly paved; rather, one that truly paints a picture of what it is to overcome adversity and how determination can get you to your goals.

“He will stick around here in the field house, and it’s commonplace here he [and his teammates] are working out all hours of the evening. Typically I have to kick them out around 9:00 when I’m going home, but they’re here all the time. They work really, really hard.”

Castleton averaged 23.3 points, 11 rebounds and 5.4 blocks per game last season, an inside-out player who can make the three and also put it on the floor. He chose U-M over Illinois and Florida and had over 30 offers. He is a Florida preseason All-State selection.
