Five-star La Porte, Ind., La Lumiere standout Brian Bowen is the latest class of 2017 standout to receive a Michigan offer. The 6-6, 175-pounder has been a standout this spring, averaging 18.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, shooting 43.2 percent from the field and 20.8 percent on three-pointers for MeanStreets AAU.
Rivals.com's No. 14 rising senior nationally could move up even more in the rankings after his outstanding spring.
"I was offered [by Michigan] on [June] 11th when I visited campus last week," Bowen said. "It was good. I really enjoyed myself."
Bowen, a cousin of former Michigan State standout Jason Richardson, is from Saginaw, Mich. and has strong ties to MSU. He's also thought to be waiting on a Kentucky offer and holds offers from Louisville, Indiana, Texas, Villanova and several others.
Bowen said N.C. State, Oklahoma State, Villanova, Michigan, Michigan State, Kentucky, UCLA, Texas, Kansas, are all recruiting him “pretty hard.”
“I don’t have any official dates set, but there are a lot of schools that want to get me to campus,” Bowen told TheWolfpacker.com in late May. “I’ll have to see where Kentucky and Duke minds are at. I’m not sure if they will offer or when they will.”
He recently tried out for USA Basketball's Under 17 team. He helped La Lumiere finish runner-up in the DICK’s Sporting Goods High School Nationals in New York City. Mouth of Wilson (Va.) Oak Hill Academy held on for a 62-60 win on April 2 at Madison Square Garden in the title game. Bowen had 20 points and nine rebounds in the game.
“La Lumiere really has helped me grown overall, and not just from a basketball standpoint, but also off the court as well,” Bowen said. “It’s a great school with great people. My coach really stressed me to be a leader and be more vocal, which helped me. I really improved.”
