Michigan Basketball Recruiting: Wolverines Offer Brad Davison

Michigan has offered three-star shooting guard Brad Davison of Maple Grove, Minn. The 6-3 combo guard and two-sport star led the entire state of Minnesota in assists for his high school team last year and is the leading scorer on the Nike EYBL (Elite Youth Basketball League) top-ranked Howard Pulley AAU team.

"I actually left campus an hour ago," Davison reported via text at 5:45 June 27. "Coach [John Beilein] offered me."

Davison will conduct interviews after his entire visit tour, which includes Wisconsin, Michigan, Northwestern, Dayton, Harvard and Yale. The 4.0 student picked up a coveted Badgers offer, as well, and is enjoying his time on the recruiting trail.

"It was great meeting Coach Beilein," he said. "I'm really glad that I can go through this whole experience with my parents."

From D1Circuit.com:

Entering Hampton [EYBL], the 6-foot-4 Davison was leading the entire NIKE EYBL in offensive rating according to Group Stats, recording a 156.0 - almost 13 points higher than the next closest player. That rating is notoriously closely-contested, so for Davison to lead by such a large margin while playing over 75% of his team’s minutes, is staggering. Davison was also the EYBL’s most effective shooter. In seven games, Davison was 31/54 from the floor, shooting 72% from inside the arc and 48% from distance.

Then came Session 3, and Davison managed to improve his already staggering numbers across the board.

In four games, Davison averaged 21.8 points. 6.3 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.5 steals, leading the injury-riddled Panthers to another perfect EYBL session. Playing most of the session with only six healthy players, Pulley desperately needed someone to lift their game. Davison did that, and much more.

"They say they really like the way I play – the toughness, intangibles. They think I would be a good fit," Davison said a few weeks ago. "One thing they stressed that I really like is their guard play. Coach Beilein really gives guards freedom in his offense … as a college basketball fan I’ve been watching it, and I really noticed it when Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway played.”

Wisconsin offered recently – a big one for him, he admitted, given that the Badgers had been watching him since eighth grade – and several others have followed suit. His improved shooting, an emphasis this year, has helped turn him into a national recruit.

“I’m hoping to commit in July or early August, just because it’s my senior year of football," he said. "My sophomore and junior years we went to the final four and lost in states. I’m going to put all my chips in on football [as the quarterback] this August.”
