Michigan will honor the 1997 National Championship football team at the Michigan State game, former U-M running back Chris Howard reported via his twitter feed.

Former Wolverine defensive lineman Glen Steele said recently the team was special in that it was so tight and never doubted itself.

“We knew we had worked so hard,” Steele said. “We were so confident in one another. If there was a time out there where it’s like, ‘I had two series I didn’t play worth a damn,’ …

“It’s the confidence to say, ‘Look guys, we know we can play with anybody. We have not played one half that we’re capable of.’”

There were individual standouts, Steele insisted, but there were not individual showboats.

“Nobody cared who got what tackle,” Steele said. “Nobody cared who got what sack. Nobody cared who got what touchdown. If everybody did their job, we’re going to win the game.

“We had a mission. We had a point to prove. We’re here. We’ve not gone anywhere. We’re going to show you. You can stick any team in the country against us, and we’re going to go.”

Michigan vs. MSU is slated for Oct. 7 and could be a night game this year.
