Atlanta Westlake four-star cornerback Myles Sims announced via Twitter that he has committed to Michigan.

Following an early March visit, Michigan jumped to the top of Sims' leaderboard and did not relinquish the spot. The No. 8 cornerback and No. 51 overall prospect nationally brought both of his parents along for the visit and Jim Harbaugh and his staff won over the entire group.

Along with Michigan, Sims held offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Stanford, Texas, USC and many others, but the Wolverines won out. It's tough to pull talented players out of SEC country but Harbaugh and Co. are starting to develop some in roads down south. It helps that Sims was born in Michigan, where he lived until he was six years old, but doesn't take anything away from the accomplishment.

After landing Lavert Hill and David Long in 2016 and Ambry Thomas and Benjamin St-Juste last year, Michigan is starting to stockpile long, athletic cornerbacks. The 2018 class is expected to be quite small compared to 2017's 30-man haul but with an elite cornerback now in the fold, the Michigan staff can swing for the fences if they want to take at least one more. Sims is one of the longest, most athletic cornerbacks in the entire 2018 class and will likely be one of the centerpieces of Michigan's class moving forward.
