2018 Projection

Cornerbacks David Long and Lavert Hill will be juniors in 2018, while Ambry Thomas and Benjamin St-Juste will be sophomores, and all of them will have at least a year year of experience under their belts.

Sims has the length and athleticism to be ready as a freshman and will only add competition to a cornerback room that is already filled with long, young corners. It'll be a battle between all of the defensive backs on the team and Sims should be in the thick of it as a rookie and beyond.

They Said It

Westlake head coach Kareem Reid: "He has the speed and the length, you can’t throw over him and it’s hard to get behind him as well. He has good ball skills and can run a go route or get a jump ball in the red zone — that’s easy for him.”

Wheeler head coach Michael Collins, whose squad fell to Westlake, 35-31, this season: “He can be that lockdown corner everyone wants because he’s got the size and the speed, and he’s also played in a league where he’s gone up against good competition Friday-in and Friday-out. I think he’s got a head start based on the competition he’s seen. I see him being a lockdown corner or a guy who could maybe guard the inside guy as well — I think he’s that versatile.

“Unfortunately for Michigan, I don’t think he’s a four-year guy. I think he’s going to a hell of a program that’s going to develop him, and I’d be very surprised to see him stay the full term there. I see a kid that’s going to be ready very soon.”

Rivals.com southeast recruiting analyst Woody Wommack: "When you watch his tape, you see a lot of interceptions. He was playing in a secondary that had a lot of Division I talent and that gave him chances to make plays. Sims uses that length and he's got great ball skills and made a lot of plays on the ball. … There's really nothing he isn't good at back there as a corner, and because he's so big he could develop into a really good safety too."
