Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy 2020 cornerback Lejond (pronounced legend) Cavazos picked up his Michigan offer at a satellite camp when he was still in Texas and has been high on U-M ever since. The 6-2, 180-pounder recapped his emotions from that day.

"It felt great when Michigan offered," he said. "I was at a camp and picked it up because of what I did in front of the coaches so that felt good. I was really ecstatic, honestly. I have a lot of offers but I like that offer out of the Big Ten. Michigan has a great fan base, a great history — Go Blue. I love that for real."

Since he was offered by the coaches in person he was able to bond a bit with the U-M staff. That has been big for the young corner since he's unable to have open contact with college staffs still.

"After I ran my 40 and did a couple of one-on-ones I talked with the coaching staff quite a bit," he said. "I wanted to get to know them the best I could and start establishing that relationship. I’m really big on relationships. I’m not going to go to a school where I don’t feel close with the staff. I’m going to go to a place where I’ve been talking to the coaches since they’ve offered me."

Being a Texas kid now living in Florida, Cavazos has spent his entire life far from Ann Arbor but he's been able to pick up some knowledge about the school and program in recent months because of a teammate and because of his own efforts.

"I honestly didn’t know that much about Michigan before," he said. "I haven’t really been playing football for that long and I didn’t really start taking football seriously until I was a freshman. I didn’t watch much football growing up but I’m paying much closer attention now that I’m being recruited.

"Having my teammate Charles Thomas committed there is helping. I’m going up there for the Ohio State game probably and that should be great. I can’t wait to eventually get up there to check it out. Those relationships again — that’s why a visit up there is important."

Cavazos has already taken a few other visits and knows of a couple more beyond Michigan that he'd like to write onto his calendar.

"I’ve been to Ohio State, Texas A&M and Texas and I think that’s it," he listed. "For the rest of this year I’ll be at the Ohio State/Penn State game, the LSU/A&M game and also Oklahoma versus Texas."

As a sophomore Cavazos has a ton of time to figure everything out and he's taking his time with the process. The state of Texas will be there waiting for him should he choose to head back to his old stomping grounds but that's not necessarily his plan. He's just going to take visits, build relationships and then make the best choice possible.

"I honestly don’t think there’s a pull back to Texas," he said. "I’m a Texas guy but I don’t know if I need to go back to Texas to play college football. That’s not really how I look at it.

"I just have to trust the process. I will talk to God, my parents and my family and really just figure out what the right place is for me. There’s a lot that goes into it so I just want to make sure that I get it right."
