Rivals Analyst Likes What U-M Is Getting In 'Big-Time Prospect' TJ Guy

Head coach Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines' football program picked up their ninth commitment in the 2021 class today, landing Mansfield (Mass.) High three-star defensive end TJ Guy.

Guy adds onto what is already a stellar 2021 class for the Maize and Blue (ranked No. 6 nationally entering the day), with Rivals.com Mid-Atlantic recruiting analyst Adam Friedman explaining that the Massachusetts native should become a reliable contributor for U-M a few years down the road.

"Michigan is landing a big-time prospect in TJ Guy," Friedman began. "He's not someone who's going to turn out to be an early contributor, but at 6-4, 250 right now, the defensive end will probably turn out to be a defensive tackle.

"He'll tack on 20-30 pounds of muscle and use his quickness and strength to turn out to be a pretty good three-technique. I would imagine he'll be a fairly big contributor for two, maybe three years after he's on campus for a year or two.

"This is a guy who is going to get developed by the Michigan coaching staff when it comes to technique. That will be his biggest area of improvement once he does get on campus.

"[Defensive coordinator] Don Brown is reaching back into New England again here and pulling out an important prospect for Michigan — someone who will wind up playing a lot for Michigan in the years to come."

Guy, who was once committed to Boston College, picked U-M over offers from Boston College, Connecticut, Nebraska, Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Virginia.

At 6-4, 240 pounds, Guy is rated as the No. 8 prospect from the state of Massachusetts.
