When he headed to Ann Arbor, Michigan in June to participate in the University of Michigan's annual summer camp, Montreal (Quebec) Vieux-Montreal cornerback Benjamin St-Juste didn't know if he'd have the opportunity to play college football. Standing 6-3, 185 pounds, he cuts an intimidating figure as a cornerback, but it wasn't until showing his stuff in front of the Wolverines' coaching staff that he earned his first - and only - scholarship offer.
The three-star committed within a week of hearing the good news from the Michigan coaches, canceling other camp appearances at Syracuse and Penn State.
At the time, he didn't know which class he'd be joining, however. Able to graduate from his Canadian High School in spring 2016, but also potentially moving back his enrollment to ensure plenty of time to make it through the NCAA Clearinghouse, he could have joined either the 2016 of 2017 class in Ann Arbor.
"I will know if i am a class of 2016 or 2017 [prospect] in June 2016," he said at the time.
He found out a little sooner than that. Today, St-Juste shared that he'll become the second member of Michigan's 2017 class, rather than one of 23 among seniors.
"Yes, I'll be a member of the 2017 class," he said. "I'll enroll early in January 2017."
The change drops Michigan's Class of 2016 to 22 current commitments - though the U-M staff has long expected that it would make more sense for St-Juste to drop down a class, and that he would be willing to make that happen. The Wolverines' coaches expect to sign anywhere from 25-28 players in 2016, and St-Juste's move opens up another slot in that group, with some other attrition through decommitments possible.
