Stephen Spanellis Goes Blue

Baltimore Gilman School offensive tackle Stephen Spanellis is a Cavalier no more. The three-star prospect announced via Twitter that he has flipped from Virginia to Michigan.

Spanellis committed to Virginia on June 3o, but decided tonight that he'd rather play his college football for Jim Harbaugh in Ann Arbor. The 6-6, 290-pounder will head to U-M from Maryland powerhouse Gilman where current Wolverine Henry Poggi's father, Biff, is the head coach. The Maize and Blue would love to insert a pipeline into one of the nation's most prominent programs.

Spanellis is the 22nd member of Michigan's 2016 class, and the second pledge of the day, after Los Angeles Loyola four-star cornerback David Long committed to the Wolverines on ESPNU.

Spanellis, the No. 36 offensive tackle nationally and No. 16 player in Maryland, chose the Wolverines over the home-state Terps, Miami, Michigan State, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, and West Virginia.
