Trey Burke, Tim Hardaway Jr. earn NBA all-rookie honors

Michigan's NBA presence continues to grow. Three Wolverines are projected to go in the first round of the June 26 draft in guard Nik Stauskas and forwards Glenn Robinson III and Mitch McGary, while former U-M guards Trey Burke of the Utah Jazz and Tim Hardaway Jr. of the New York Knicks were named to the NBA All-Rookie first team Thursday.
The duo became the first Wolverines to earn all-rookie honors in 16 years.

Burke was on 122 of 125 ballots from sportswriters and broadcasters who regularly cover the NBA and earned 108 first-team votes. Hr returned from a broken finger injury in the preseason and earned Western Conference rookie of the month three times. He also teamed up with Portland standout Damian Lillard to win the Skills Challenge during All-Star Weekend.
Joining Burke and Hardaway Jr. on the first team included Michael Carter-Williams (Philadelphia), Victor Oladipo (Orlando) and Mason Plumee (Brooklyn). The second team included Kelly Olynyk (Boston), Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee), Gorgui Dieng (Minnesota), Cody Zeller (Charlotte) and Steven Adams (Oklahoma City).
Burke, third in the NBA's Rookie of the Year voting, finished the season averaging 12.8 points (third best among rookies), 5.7 assists (second best among rookies) and 3.0 rebounds per game. He became the first player in team history to win multiple Rookie of the Month awards, earning the Western Conference honor in both December and January. He recorded 12 games with 20-plus points and dished out 10-plus assists seven times.
Hardaway, fifth in the NBA Rookie of the Year voting, averaged 10.2 points per game, fourth-best among all rookies, and shot 36.3 percent from three-point range. He scored in double figures in 40 games while also shooting 82.8 percent from the free throw line. He was selected to play in the Rising Stars Challenge on NBA All-Star Weekend, where he scored 36 points. Hardaway played 23.2 minutes per game, sixth best among rookies, despite making just one start on the season.
Burke and Hardaway helped guide U-M to the 2013 Final Four before leaving early for the NBA Draft. Burke was chosen ninth overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves before being traded to the Jazz, while Hardaway was taken 25th overall by the Knicks.
