Wheatley is a 6-6, 245-pounder rated a four-star and ranked the No. 13 tight end nationally, and the top prep player in the state of New York. He will have the opportunity to play for a coaching staff that includes his father, former U-M tailback Tyrone Wheatley, as the running backs coach.
Wheatley is the 14th player to commit to Michigan's 2015 class. It is unclear whether he will play defensive end (where his father, a former NFL coach, has opined that the upside is highest) or tight end (where Michigan has a strong need after missing on the country's top player at the position, Chris Clark, earlier today).
