And to see Notre Dame lay an egg like it did today, really surprising.

it's been pretty much all bad.  Still a few people alive, but most of us are toast.

Nobody picked the West Regional, complete shut out there, but yea what might have been had Michigan made it past Notre Dame and for Notre Dame to then turn around and get just pounded makes things even more disappointing.

The one thing that's seems pretty obvious after today is that the Frozen Four is shaping up to be something not seen in a while.  It looks like there could be a couple of first timers (or at least schools that haven't been in a long time).  I think Yale was there a couple years back or did they get dumped in the regional.  Miami has been in the last 5 or 6 years.  UMass-Lowell, not sure if they have been in the past, but if they have it's been quite a long while.

Right now the biggest shocker to me, outside of Yale coming out of the West and ND not even bothering to show up, is Union.  Right now, closing on the mid point of the second period, is blanking Boston College 3-0.  Never count BC out, especially in the tournament, but right now they seem to be in a spot of trouble.

Union is now up 5-0, looks like BC will not be defending

Puckhead, I see that ND is done! Miami as well!  Holy cow what a FF coming up. See this could have all been easy if Michigan got in. They'd have won it all if they beat ND.  GBGBB "74

College hockey news seems to be doing a better job of keeping scores updated than USCHO.  They were way behind yesterday and seem to be today as well.

Also, the games are on ESPN-U, so if you get that you can watch them.

If I was a university president up North, I would add college hockey...much like PSU.  You look at some of these small school's doing so well: Union, Quinnipiac, St. Cloud,'s amazing to me.

Maybe this is a situation where college hockey has become so much more popular vs. the AHL, and there are not enough big programs (no South, Southeast, Southwest) schools, it just limits the pie of potential schools for players to attend.  Put a team together, of good players, who stick around for 3-4 years, and you can make a real run.

Any thoughts as to why small schools are doing so well?

get some crowds, I suppose they are doing OK (they are still playing), but I don't think there are many college hockey programs around that actually support themselves.

They can stick around because hockey in the East is more of a tradition.  It has tradition in certain places in the Midwest and further West, but it's certainly not universal.  There are certainly some uncertain teams in this years Frozen Four, but they are drawing attention because it is unusual.  They are having some success this year, but the real test will be to see if they can maintain that over the course of 5, 6, 10 years.
