So the CCHA ends with a whimper - only 2 teams make the tourney and none to the FF.

This will be a weird frozen foursome - 2 ECAC teams (I think they said the last time that happened was 1983, and I think from 2004 - 2011 no ECAC team made the FF); and only 1 team each from the HEA and the WCHA (of the 6 in the tourney).  If Q beats Union tonight, none of these 4 teams will ever have been in the FF as the tourney is structured today.

Also, BTW, this is not a good foursome if you have FF tix to sell - all fairly small schools.  Not like having NoDak, Minny, Wisconsin, Michigan or MSU in the FF with lots of fans looking to buy tix.

so they are off to a good start.  I really haven't seen them play but someone who sits next to me at Yost has seen them several times this year and he says they are the real deal.  Solid team with speed to burn.  They stumbled a bit at the end of the season, but it looks like they could be getting back on track.

As for tickets, since Michigan isn't in the picture I decided to save some money and not go to Pittsburgh.  I sold my tickets in less than 24 hours, of course I kept the price reasonable.  I think with so many teams making it to Pittsburgh that don't normally get there, the market might be better than you think.  The fans of these teams know that this doesn't happen often so they need to take their shot while they can.  Also, so far there are two teams from the East and there will be three, whether it's Quinnipiac or Union so the travel expenses will be less for them than for any team travelling from the West.

Only Yale has ever gone before (1991).

It should be an interesting crowd in Pittsburgh.

I drove a few times to Pittsburgh from New York and it was like 8 hours, perfect for a road trip.

They said during the Yale game yesterday that the only time Yale was in the final four before was 1952 (1951?) when the tournament consisted of 4 teams getting invited.

In the post-WW2 period , the years of abut 1948-1952, 1998, and the last 4-5 years are basically the only good stretches Yale has ever had in hockey.

Ok - thought I read 1991, but maybe I completely misread it.

Either way - it's still pretty remarkable.

True statement there. I figured coming in that there were 9 teams I didn't want to see win, ranging in reasons from general hatred, to them being close to us in titles, to wanting to keep making jokes (UNH/SCSU).

8 of the 9 are out, and SCSU would have been the closest to not being on that list. There'll be a first time champ. I'm pretty happy with the way this has gone all things considered.

When the season was starting, I would be willing to bet no one would've picked any of the teams in the FF this year, and then you add UM not getting into the tourney. Kind of a crazy year. I agree though could be some sparse crowds this year.

Quick question- while I didn't want nd to win, should I be mad at how bad they played after dumping us? A few teams have really made mad after ending our season and then laying an egg.

I missed all the weekend game being on a cruise ship.

Well my general approach is that you should root for the teams that beat you to keep advancing.  If they lose right away like Notre Dame just did, that only further substantiates that we sucked.  On the other hand, if the team that beat you advances to the FF, or wins the championship, etc., then you can say, "Well, it took the eventual natinal champ to eliminate us."  Same for other sports - e.g. in football, if we lose to MSU or OSU, do you then want to see them lose their bowl game by 3 TDs?  No, we look better if they go to a bowl game and beat a good team.

There's rooting for them, and then being angry that they didn't show up.

Remember, after CC came back on us in the third period quite a few years ago, they came to the Frozen Four, and played horribly.  I was rooting for them, but was very upset that they played like that after beating us.

And I I see the same in Notre Dame- if they dump us and then play badly- well, that just is bad.  You earned a place and a win, now deserve to be there.

I'm ok with Miami sucking.  They just do.  It was interesting to see the review of the '96 win and see a Miami fan rooting so hard against us.  I wish them bad play in the NCHC.
