I remember a few years ago about Michigan might look at him one day as being coach. No word on what he is going to do.

Sounds like he was fired.

Or at least it was a mutual agreement to not come back.

A lot of people thought MSU should have taken a look at him when Mason retired, and some people believed he was going to comeback to Michigan State until his family (i.e. wife) nixed the deal (she wanted to remain in Denver). Those were just rumors though.

Yes as more reports come out, it sounds like he was fired. Kind of strange. He's a good coach and has had a ton of success. I wonder who they think they can get that will do a better job?

Yeah, no kidding, why would you fire him and how is DU going to do better?  Unless there was something going on behind the scenes like he was demanding more money that DU didn't want to give him.

My first cousin is married to Gwozdecky.  He is a great guy and coach.
He would be a great fit at Michigan.
His wife is from Lansing.  He met her while and assistant at State.
My  cousin(of male gender) and I are close and talk all the time.  I have had computer problems and haven't talked with him.
I have an email in to him and he does respond. He is a good State fan.
He had told me that State did offer Gwoz to replace Mason, but Mason was AD and offered him less than half of what he was making at Denver.
He was very hurt that his mentor offered him that low of a bid.
My cousin never nixed anything.  I think that they would like to come back to the area.
Her father passed away last August and her mother has problems.
She has a sister and brother that live in Lansing and 2 sisters that live in the Ann Arbor area.
One lives close to the Big HOUuse.
The AD at Denver is female(if that is what you call it) and is always trying to take money away from hockey and put it more towards female sports.
This has been going on for a  long time, but when you have won 2 national championships there wasn't much she could do or say.
Now it has been 6 years since their last NC and this has riled up her testoerone.\
I am not a politically correct person.
