Michigan senior running back De'Veon Smith has made the watch list for the 2016 Doak Walker Award, given annually to the nation's best running back.
The award is on its 27th year and is named after the all-time great running back Doak Walker of Southern Methodist University and the Detroit Lions. The PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directos announced the list Thursday morning. On November 16, the PwC SMU Athletic Forum will announce 10 semifinalists, then the Doak Walker National Selection Committee will cast their votes to determine the three finalists announced on November 22. The winner of the award will be announced at the College Football Awards on Thursday, December 8 on ESPN.
Smith finished his junior season with 753 total yards and six touchdowns on 180 carries. His longest run came on a 61-yard touch against BYU that casted him in one of the season's biggest highlights.
He set career highs in 2015 in carries and touchdowns against Oregon State (23 carries, three touchdowns), and set his career-high in yards against BYU with 128. He ran the ball for almost 200 yards more in 2015 than 2014.
