With the holes the Wolverines have dug for themselves in their two road games, they must be reading Holes and heeding the advice of the Camp Green Lake counselors in their spare time.
Michigan has had horrid starts in both of its games away from Ann Arbor. In Week 1, U-M traveled to South Bend as a three-point favorite, hoping to knock off a ranked opponent on the road for the first time since 2006. Yet after the first 8:51, the Wolverines trailed Notre Dame, 14-0, and after the first 26:05, it was 21-3. Then, on Saturday, they went to Evanston as a 14.5-point favorite and had a worse start, falling behind Northwestern, 17-0, after the first 17:04.
It’s one thing to stumble out of the gates when Michigan is facing a top-10 caliber opponent in front of a frenzied crowd at night. It’s another to do it against a Northwestern squad with back-to-back home losses to Duke and Akron, in front of stands bursting with maize and blue.
The Wolverines weren’t just getting beat up on the scoreboard either. During these slow starts, they were completely dominated by Notre Dame and Northwestern on both sides of the ball.
