Graduate transfer point guard Jaaron Simmons came to Michigan from Ohio University and will have an opportunity to start this year. The MAC standout said it was an easy decision to choose the Wolverines over Ohio State and several other programs.

Simmons has already been on campus a month and working with strength coach Jon Sanderson.

“The coaching staff … Coach [John] Beilein came and met with me in Dayton, and it was really easy after that,” he said. “He laid out a plan for me as a player, a student. He told me the opportunity for me here.

“I’m just a hard worker, and a leader … and a point guard. I’m just a guy who wants to run his team, whether that’s scoring the ball, making plays for my teammates. I’m just trying to produce wins on the court. That’s all I am.”

He hates to lose, a trait he picked up from his father, and it’s something he said he doesn't plan on doing at Michigan. He played football for two years in sixth and seventh grade and never lost a game as the team’s quarterback, he quipped.

He’s already bonded with his teammates and feels like he’s a great fit.

“It was very, very easy,” he said. “Everybody has accepted me with open arms. It hasn’t been a tough transition at all. It’s like I’ve been here a year already.”
