Former Michigan Heisman trophy winner and current ESPN analyst Charles Woodson received a bit of a surprise on Sunday morning.

On ESPN's weekly Sunday NFL Countdown show, host Samantha Ponder told Woodson that he had been elected to the 2018 College Football Hall of Fame class.

Co-worker and fellow U-M alum Adam Schefter then proceeded to present Woodson with an honorary football.

Woodson played at Michigan from 1995-1997, and became the only primarily defensive player to win the Heisman trophy in 1997 (he also returned punts and played some offense).

He then went on to have a successful 17-year NFL career, playing with the Oakland Raiders from 1998-2005, the Green Bay Packers from 2006-2012 and then the Raiders again from 2013-2015.

The induction ceremony will take place in New York on Dec. 4.

Below is a video of the ESPN announcement, along with a few congratulatory tweets.
