Michigan Wolverines football sophomore wide receiver and return man Giles Jackson entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal Monday morning, Rivals.com has learned.

Jackson served as the Maize and Blue's primary kick returner over the last two seasons, averaging 26.4 yards per return and scoring two career kick return touchdowns. He also caught 24 passes for 309 yards and one score and rushed the ball 12 times for 74 yards and one touchdown.

After showing flashes as a slot receiver in 2019 — nine catches for 142 yards and one touchdown — Jackson, a former four-star recruit, failed to take the big step forward that many expected him to during the shortened 2020 campaign. As a sophomore, he caught 15 balls for 167 yards and no touchdowns offensively.

"After many long nights of deep thought, I have decided to enter my name into the transfer portal," the Antioch, Calif., native wrote in a social media post Monday. "A world of thanks to all the coaches, training staff, academic support staff and especially my teammates and friends, you will always be held in the highest regard. Lastly, thank you to all the fans, you will be missed."
