NFL Media senior analyst and personnel expert Gil Brandt recently ranked the best players at each position in NFL history, and several former Wolverines made the list.
Unsurprisingly, Brandt tabbed Patriots quarterback Tom Brady as the best signal-caller of all-time. Brady has won five Super Bowls with the Patriots, and is a four-time Super Bowl MVP.
Two former Wolverine cornerbacks also made Brandt’s list, with Ty Law checking in at No. 18, and Charles Woodson at No. 4. Law retired in 2009, but was a three-time Super Bowl champion with 53 career interceptions.
Woodson won the Heisman trophy and a national title during the 1997 season at Michigan, and went on to record 65 career interceptions in the NFL, good for fifth-most all-time.
Elroy "Crazy Legs" Hirsch came in as the 15th-best receiver on Brandt's list. Hirsch tallied 7,029 receiving yards during his career, along with 60 touchdowns.
Brandt named Len Ford as the 25th-best defensive end in NFL history; Ford played from 1948-1958, winning three NFL championships in the process, and has since been enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Finally, three former Michigan offensive linemen made the list – Steve Hutchinson as the 15th-best tackle, Tom Mack as the second-best tackle, and Dan Dierdorf as the 16th-best center.
Hutchinson amazingly started all 169 of the pro games he played in, and was voted to seven Pro Bowls.
Mack played for the Rams from 1966-1978, making 11 Pro Bowls during his tenure, and has since been enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Dierdorf played for the Cardinals from 1971-1983, and started 150 of the 160 games he participated in during his career.
