Seven U-M Commits To Play In US Army A-A Bowl
Seven U-M football commitments and six players Michigan is still recruiting have been selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas, on Sunday, Jan. 5 The game will be televised on ESPN2 at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
“It’s probably going to be the biggest collection of All-Americans ever assembled, and the first high school All-American game to be televised in prime time nationally,” said Tom Lemming, who picked the 78 players for the game. “I had to get the names in somewhat early, so we’re missing a couple of guys. But I still think we’ll have so many big-time stars that it’s going to be really exciting.”

Some states, including Michigan, will not allow its players to participate in the game.

The All-Americans will report to San Antonio on Dec. 29 and 30. Pre-game festivities include a parade, skills competitions (including contests for pie and rib eating, wall climbing, passing and receiving) and an awards banquet.
The day after the game Reebok will conduct a combine for the top juniors in the country.
Last year, two future Wolverines played in the game, receiver Jason Avant of Illinois, who could not participate because of a knee injury, and offensive lineman Mike Kolodziej of Illinois. U-M defensive back Marlin Jackson of Pennsylvania and defensive end Pierre Woods of Ohio played in the inaugural US Army All-American Bowl in December of 2000.
