Observations

— After scoring just 10 points against the Spartans on Saturday, Michigan's points per game fell from 58th to 80th nationally. This is a far cry from the No. 11 scoring offense it finished with last season, when it averaged 40.3 points per game.

— Despite allowing just 14 points, Michigan's defense only rose from eighth to seventh nationally in scoring defense.

— The Wolverines' rush defensive numbers took a hit, falling from first nationally to sixth, after allowing MSU to rack up 158 yards on the ground.

— The Maize and Blue's turnover margin fell from an even zero to minus-five, and 108th nationally. Again, this is a far cry from last year, when they finished the season with a plus-seven turnover margin.

— Michigan's defense is forcing turnovers at a below-average rate once again this year, currently sitting at 78th nationally (finished 67th in 2016). The Wolverines did not force a turnover on Saturday for the first time since the 20-10 victory over Indiana last season.
