After a recent return trip to Ann Arbor with his twin brother and Michigan commit Jerod last month, 2024 EDGE Jacob Smith has committed to the Michigan Wolverines.

Smith committed to Michigan over Nebraska, Notre Dame, Kentucky, Georgia, and Alabama. Smith is the 16th 4-star committed to Michigan in the 2024 cycle.

Smith will play for Cheshire Academy in Cheshire, CT in 2023. He and his brother transferred there after playing at The Loomis Chaffee School. At 6'4" 226lbs, Smith is a physical pass rusher Michigan hopes is the perfect fit for its weak side EDGE role. With extra weight gain, Smith could play the strong side role as well. Smith played both defensive end and tight end last season. Michigan has targeted two play players consistently in recruiting.

Smith joins a 2024 defensive end group at Michigan that includes his brother Jerod Smith, recent commit Devon Baxter, Dominic Nichols, Elias Rudolph, and Ted Hammond. Hammond and Jerod Smith could be candidates to slide to the interior.
