The Baltimore Ravens selected Chris Wormley with the No. 74 overall pick in the third round of the NFL draft. Wormley will play for Jim Harbaugh’s brother, John, who is the head coach in Baltimore.

Michigan surprisingly did not have a player selected in the second round; some thought Jourdan Lewis or Wormley would be selected a bit higher, but it obviously did not play out that way.

Wormley had an outstanding career during his time in Ann Arbor, recording 33 tackles for loss, 18 sacks and a fumble recovery. He received several honors during his final season at Michigan, including being named first-team All-Big Ten by the coaches, and second-team by the media. He was also a two-time Academic All-Big Ten recipient in 2015 and 2016, and a second-team Sporting News All-American in 2016.

Wormley was named a co-captain this past year, and went on to start all 13 games. He went on to have his best season in a winged helmet, posting six sacks and nine tackles for loss.

While Wormley came off the board at No. 74, the Wolverines did not see their first player picked (Graham Glasgow) until the 95th pick in last year’s draft. The last time the Maize and Blue saw their third player come off the board this high was 2007, when LaMarr Woodley was selected 46th overall.

“You obviously have the connection with the Harbaugh brothers here,” said Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network. “Wormley is someone who is made to be a 5-technique at the next level. You can put him over a tackle, and ask him to sit there and hold the point of attack using your length and your strength, and be able to push the pocket as a pass rusher. Wormley is a really good value pick right here in the third round for another Harbaugh.”

Mel Kiper and Todd McShay of ESPN also gave their thoughts.

“He blocked three kicks on special teams,” said Kiper. “Play recognition on the defensive line was excellent. He’s 6-5 and 300 pounds, plays the run extremely well and though he’s never going to be a prolific pass rusher, he’s disruptive. He had some huge games – Michigan State, Iowa. Against Ohio State he had five tackles and a sack. One thing I really like about him is he hustles.”

“This guy carries his weight beautifully,” said McShay. “He moves pretty well for a big guy, and he has heavy hands. This guy is strong versus the run.”
