With a roster as loaded as Michigan's heading into 2023, players are bound to receive some attention from the national media. The expected long list of preseason awards began on Monday, when Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy and running back Blake Corum were named to the Maxwell Award Watch List.

The Maxwell Award, presented annually to the best player in college football, released its watch list on Monday ahead of the 2023 season.

The Big Ten had 11 players on the list. Joining McCarthy and Corum were Isaiah Williams (Illinois), Taulia Tagovailoa (Maryland), Nicholas Singleton (Penn State), Tanner Mordecai (Wisconsin), Cade McNamara (Iowa), Marvin Harrison Jr. (Ohio State), Emeka Egbuka (Ohio State), Hudson Card (Purdue) and Braelon Allen (Wisconsin).

Additionally, former Michigan quarterback Joe Milton made an appearance on the list.

McCarthy and Corum were arguably Michigan's two most important players a year ago, and the duo will look to make an even greater impact in 2023.

As a sophomore, McCarthy threw for 2,719 yards, 22 touchdowns and five interceptions. He finished the season with an efficient 64.6 completion percentage and a 79.1 quarterback rating.

Expectations are high for McCarthy as he heads into his junior season. The 20-year-old has had a full, healthy offseason to get bigger, faster and stronger and build chemistry with his receivers.

Meanwhile, Corum — who didn't have a fully healthy offseason — is back for his senior season. The stud running back announced his return in January, an announcement that Jim Harbaugh said "made [his] offseason."

Corum is coming off a torn meniscus, but the senior confirmed at Big Ten Media Days last week that he is "good to go" for fall camp.

Michigan long snapper William Wagner was also named to the Patrick Mannelly Award Watch List, an award presented to the top long snapper in the nation.

Players report to fall camp on Tuesday in Ann Arbor.
