Expectations are high for the football program this season, as things have now gone beyond having a seat at the College Football Playoff table being good enough.

In the last year of the four-team format, Michigan is hoping to make it three consecutive trips to the playoffs with hopes of going beyond the semi-final.

Pro Football Focus released its 15 teams that could make the CFP this season, with the Wolverines making an appearance, with many predicting U-M to win the Big Ten conference three years in a row.

PFF states its case for why the Wolverines can make the playoffs again.

This could very well be Jim Harbaugh’s best team at Michigan so far, and that’s saying something. The Wolverines return two of the top running backs in the country in Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards, both of whom will likely feast on the ground this season behind a dominant offensive line. Michigan did lose a lot on defense but brought in another stout recruiting class that should help them reload on that side of the ball. The Wolverines have a very favorable schedule with a weak nonconference slate that should prove fortuitous for them. It’s hard to imagine them losing more than one game. But this season isn’t just about getting back to the College Football Playoff for Michigan. They need to win it all for this season not to be a disappointment. Starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy will have to take that next step as a passer.
