TJ Guy is ready to pull the trigger.
The three-star 2021 defensive end out of Mansfield (Mass.) High is set to make his decision tomorrow afternoon and is down to Boston College and Michigan.
While Guy has not been able to visit Michigan or make a return trip to Boston College, he feels like now is the time to make the final call.
“I have a sense of where I want to go and where I could see myself,” Guy said. “My mom is comfortable with the decision. I just want to be down and loyal for the team. I’m ready to be part of a team again.”
With the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Guy’s recruitment has been focused around virtual tours and video chats with both the Boston College and Michigan coaching staffs.
“I’ve definitely done a lot of virtual tours,” Guy said. “I stayed in contact with the coaches that I’m most connected to, basically on a daily basis. I’m really close with any coach of a school that I’m strongly considering.”
This will actually be Guy’s second and last time making a commitment.
He was previously a verbal pledge to Boston College but decided to part ways with his home state school following a coaching change. However, new Boston College head coach Jeff Hafley has made keeping Guy home a top priority this cycle.
“I have a great connection with the new coaches,” Guy said. “They’re definitely going to bring good stuff to BC. They are really interested in me and pursuing me really hard. Coach Hafley said he hand picked me and recruited me after the coaching change. He can see what me and him can do and Boston College. We can bring a whole new energy there.”
Michigan, on the other hand, has pushed hard for Guy since offering back in February. UM defensive coordinator Don Brown has strong roots in New England, and the Wolverines have had plenty of success in the area over the last couple of cycles.
As mentioned, Guy has not visited Michigan. But the Wolverines are a finalist because of the relationships he’s built with Brown and the rest of the Michigan coaching staff.
“I have a great relationship with Coach Don Brown and Coach Shaun Nua,” Guy said. “I FaceTime those guys a lot. They opened me up to the whole school because I can’t visit. I’ve talked to Coach (Jim) Harbaugh a lot of times. I’ve talked to the head of education. I’ve seen all I’ve needed to see from Michigan. They made it easy for me to put them in the final decision.”
Guy is looking to announce his commitment between 1-2 p.m. eastern time.
So what’s his decision going to come down to?
“Just what’s best for my future to get to my ultimate goal,” he said. “That’s to finish school and to be in a great place where I can compete at the college football level.”
At 6-foot-4, 240 pounds, Guy is ranked as the No. 8 overall prospect in the state of Massachusetts.
