Converted defensive back Amorion Walker is adapting to life as a full-time defensive player. While it wasn't necessarily in the cards for him during the recruitment process, playing on defense isn't exactly something he is unfamiliar with.

While many schools recruited him as a wide receiver, including U-M, the Wolverines can see his value as a defensive back.

Walker can see that value, too, as he has quickly made the needed adjustments and is enjoying his time on defense.

“As the days go by, I’m loving the position more and more as I get better,” Walker said. “Building that aura about myself that when I touch the field, that I feel like a different player stepping on to do what I need to do. I’ve been loving it more and more every day.”

Walker said that the plan is for him to nail down what he needs to on defense before being able to see where he will be utilized on offense, so playing both ways is certainly still on the table.

However, his focus is solely on defense where he says he is relying on his athleticism right now as he learns the position. That approach seems to be working as he recorded two interceptions in the last handful of practices.

Fortunately for Walker, he has an excellent blueprint to follow in Mike Sainristil. Someone who took a similar path, Walker has been keeping an eye on Sainristil and doesn't hesitate to reach out to him for advice.

“Since day one, I’ve always had him in my arsenal,” Walker said. “He’s a guy where I stayed in his back pocket, even when I was on the offensive side. Somebody I can come to and get some tips and pointers whenever I need to.

"But as far as the transition, very thankful for him. Probably wouldn't be doing as good as I'm doing without him right now. He's making sure I'm doing what I need to do.”
