The College Football landscape has seen massive changes in recent years, and more came Friday after months of rumors. The Big Ten has conference has officially added the University of Oregon and the University of Washington to the conference effective 2024.
Oregon and Washington will join fellow former PAC 12 schools USC and UCLA, making the move to the Big Ten in 2024. Schedules for 2024 and 2025 had already been announced by the Big Ten and adjustments will obviously now need to be made. Sources say the conference will maintain its goal of protecting long standing rivalries while also preserving a rotating model that keeps matchups fresh.
It has been rumored the Big Ten would be interested in adding Oregon and Washington back to when the USC and UCLA additions were announced. The Big Ten chose to move forward with its current media rights deal, and to leave the Pac 12 alone. With Arizona, Arizona State, and Utah making the move to the Big 12, the Big Ten chose to move now earlier than intended. Oregon and Washington will accept partial payments from the Big Ten’s media deal for now to facilitate the deal, similar to Maryland and Rutgers when they joined.
