Braiden McGregor talks up transfer Josaiah Stewart: 'He's a freak'

Michigan made a big splash during the first window of the transfer portal as the program addressed a handful of needs at key positions to bring in some depth for next season.

One of those moves was bringing in Coastal Carolina EDGE Josaiah Stewart, who has immediately made an impression on his teammates so far during spring with his aggressive approach to playing the position.

"He's a freak," Braiden McGregor told reporters on Monday. "He might not be as big as Aidan or Mike or whatever but he's a freak. Every single snap, he's aggressive. He's trying to put everybody on their butt, set the tackles down. He gets to the quarterback and he's there a lot."

The aggressiveness shows in the results, as Stewart recorded 12.5 sacks during his freshman season, which led the Sun Belt Conference.

The Wolverines are hoping the results return for Stewart as he heads back into a more familiar role in U-M's defense.

His teammates also appreciate a different perspective and voice in the room.

"I think he's a great addition to our defense as well as the EDGE guys," McGregor said. "Having someone that has a different type of coaching that he had and working at certain different things and bringing it to us, 'Wow, I didn't notice he should've grabbed and pulled the tricep on the pass rush'. I think he's really aggressive and I think he'll be a good addition this year."
